Professional Biography

Dr. Brock is a graduate of the human development and family studies program at Pennsylvania State University. He completed his clinical internship at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy since 1977 and an Approved Supervisor since 1979. Dr. Brock is a Fellow in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, past Board Director, past Chair of the Ethics Committee and a winner of the AAMFT Post-Graduate Research Award. Dr. Brock is a two time Fulbright Award recipient; he was a Fulbright Professor at Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, during the 1997-1998 academic year and in Sri Lanka during the 2002-2003 academic year.

Dr. Brock is the founder of FAMLYSCI, which was the largest family science-related discussion list on the internet for roughly 15 years. He has served as a member of the Advisory Committee for the National Examination in Marriage and Family Therapy and a reviewer of graduate programs for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education. Dr. Brock is a Certified Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Kentucky.

Dr. Brock has published widely in the field of marriage and family therapy. His areas of expertise are professional ethics and therapy treatment technique. He is the editor of the AAMFT Ethics Casebook published by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and co-author of several widely used textbooks in the field.

Although now retired, he holds emeritus status at the University of Kentucky. In that role, he continues to teach a popular online course on mate selection and serve on thesis and dissertation committees within the Department of Family Sciences. He is also an Associate in the UK Bioethics program, a member of the UK Hospital Ethics Committee, and works as a bioethicist for the UK Hospital.
